Fall Projects At Picture That!  Frame Shop

It was a cool, crisp almost-fall evening at the frame shop.  It's so nice to finally give the air conditioner a break.  Hopefully, The Shop Girls won't have to fire up the heater any time soon. 

We're working on a terrific Peter Max poster with colors so bright, it just might be able to generate some warmth by itself!  (Yes, that is a huge exaggerartion.....but it IS really bright!)

Both Shop Girls are products of the 70's -- it's safe to say that we dig Peter Max.  Yeah, the word 'groovy' even comes to mind. 

It will be both exciting and interesting to see how our customer wants to show off this piece of art. 

Matted?
Wood frame?
Metal frame?
Fillet?

You just never know where a project will ultimately hang and how the customer prefers the artwork to be featured. 

One thing is for sure though.......finding a color to POP on any Peter Max piece is never a challenge!

The Shop Girls just finished a night session a few moments ago.

What FUN we had tonight -- listening to Tina Turner while working on local artist, Victoria Duffy's piece,

"Salem County, First Snow".  Victoria is donating her artwork to the annual GALA to benefit the scholarship fund for Salem Community College.

She inspired The Shop Girls to step up to the plate and donate their work, as well.

Donate for education?  YES!  We're in!

Victoria's "Salem County, First Snow" is such a striking piece of art.....we just know it's going to bring a really nice price for the scholarship fund! 

(We couldn't help but notice that this one is numbered '1/24'.  If you like it and can't make it to the gala to bid on it, we could put you in contact with Victoria so you could purchase another one.  (2 through 24 are probably available!)

And, as always, The Shop Girls are available to frame your artwork!

Salem County Map, dated 1875

There's been a lovely run on work dropped off at Picture That! in the past week. 

One of our favorites is this original 1875 map of Salem County, NJ.  It appears that it was published as part of the old Today's Sunbeam Newspaper quite a long time ago. 

On the back, there were images of impressive landmarks around the county. 

It seemed like such a shame to cover up those landmarks.  In fact, some folks may have preferred those sketches of historic properties as the main event, rather than the map.

What to do....what to do?

Luckily, there is a pretty simple solution to a predicament like this.  The Shop Girls quickly decided to frame this piece with glass on both the front and the back.  That way, the owner could turn it over to view the 'flip side' whenever their little heart desired.  It's a little trickier to frame something with this method......but it's oh-so-worth it.  It's also a little heavier to frame artwork with the second piece of glass.

A little extra hanging wire takes care of that issue, as you can see here.

History always fascinates The Shop Girls. 

What do you have laying around your house that should be protected in an attractive, acid-free custom frame?  Do yourself a favor and take care of it this year before it further deteriorates.  Light, insects, change in temperature.....all of these can absolutely ruin your prescious piece.
